With so many different people and organizations running winter drives to benefit UnderShare this winter, I was definitely hoping for relatively good haul for our beneficiaries. What I wasn’t expecting was the piles and PILES of underwear, socks and toiletries that we collected! It took a good 4 hours to sort and catalogue everything, and at the end of the day we managed to collect 340 pair of underwear, 110 pair of socks, 305 diapers and 197 bars of soap!!!!!!! That doesn’t even include the dozens of bottles of shampoo, condition and body wash that were so generously donated by our January Featured Volunteer, De Jur Jones.
It left me with a warm and grateful feeling that will carry me far beyond the holiday season. I cannot express my appreciation enough to the LAX Coastal Young Professionals, Raksa, our volunteer graphic designer Bryon Hutchens and De Jur Jones for organizing and collecting these hundreds of items which we were able to donate to Step Up on Second, Sojourn Services, and Downtown Women’s Center.
