Press & Media FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 8, 2002 UNDERSHARE AND DISCOVERY ISLE TEAM UP FOR DIAPER DRIVE Hollywood based charity and San Marcos based childcare centers work together to supply diapers to needy children SAN MARCOS, Calif. (April 8, 2002) - UnderShare, Inc. and Discovery Isle, a childcare center based in San Marcos will supply diapers to Encinitas-based "Libre!," a domestic violence center for women and children during the ÒWeek of the Young Child," April 7th-13th. Libre! has several children in need of diapers. "Since September 11, we just haven't been seeing the usual donations we usually get," says Tracy Chester of Libre. Discovery Isle has four childcare centers in the San Diego area and all are participating in the diaper drive April 7-14. "The reason we wanted to do a diaper drive (for the Week of the Young Child) is so children less fortunate could also receive," says Discovery Isle Director Marriah Pearson. "Most of the time during the Week of the Young Child, the focus is on the children we have in our center, but you should see the faces of the children when they realize that they are helping a child who doesn't have all of the things they may have. Teaching a child to give and expect nothing in return is one of the most valuable gifts a child can learn." Libre! Services for Women and Children is the Domestic Violence Shelter in the Community Resource Center. Libre! provides a 45-day, 11-bed emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children (12 and under), 18-month transitional housing, community domestic violence education outreach, domestic violence drop-in group (peer support group), and 40-hour domestic violence volunteer training. The Discovery Isle Childcare Centers are located in Poway, La Costa/San Marcos, Carlsbad and San Marcos. The Childcare Centers do the diaper drive every year. This year they teamed up with UnderShare in order to annually supply diapers to whichever regional shelter is really in need of diapers at that time. UnderShare, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit founded in 1996 to supply underwear, bras, diapers, socks and other items to the nation's homeless shelters, battered women's shelters and orphanages.
